It was Friday, the 16th of September at 11:30 pm – that was when our journey to Scotland for us 6th graders started. All in all, there were 57 teenagers and accompanied by three teachers, Mr Fiechtl, Ms Prenn and Ms Tatschl. We went by bus to Munich Airport, this took about four hours and after our flight, we finally arrived at Edinburgh Airport at 10:10 am the next day. There were taxis organized by a tour guide named Caroline, so we students were taken directly to our host families.
Next day, it was Sunday the 18th of September, we students and the teachers visited St. Andrews and Stirling. This tour lasted the whole day long and between 5:00 pm and 6 pm we got back to Edinburgh and finally to our host parents who had prepared a typical Scottish dish.
On Monday we had to go to school. Classed took place at the Royal Scots Club, an amazing building in Edinburgh. School did not take that long as in Austria, we just had lessons all morning long in which we practiced debates, discussions and much more. After that, we had an own program organized by the teachers. Because of Queen Elisabeth’s death, shops and museums were closed.
After school on Tuesday, we had a guided walking tour with the teachers from the language school in Edinburgh. That lasted about 120 minutes. After the city-tour, we went together to Portobello Beach and had a great time there, until we finally got back home to our host parents.
On Wednesday after school, we did a scavenger hunt through Edinburgh, then visited Carlton Hill, from where we could see the whole Princess Street, which is the biggest shopping street in Edinburgh.
On Thursday, we students went up to Edinburgh Castle, together with the teachers we took a closer look at the building, the Crown Jewels and Scotland’s history. Afterwards we visited the Royal Mile, which is an amazing street located in Edinburgh’s old city center.
After finishing our English classes on Friday, which were great fun and made us improve our English a lot, some of our class went to see the Dungeons in Edinburgh, while others walked to Arthur’s Seat.
On Saturday we took a plane early in the morning and finally we arrived in Judenburg at 9 o’clock pm. It was a beautiful trip, and all of us students enjoyed our stay in wonderful Scotland.
